The need for constructing sustainable rural livelihoods has heightened due to the return of daily wage Laborers and migrant workers from locked-down cities also bringing unemployment, poverty, and hardship in the lives of poverty-stricken families living in villages all over India. The crisis forged by the COVID-19 outbreak has reinforced the real necessity of their work. Through our sustainable rural livelihood building programme, we are striving to serve the neediest families of migrant workers, tribals, and daily wage laborers, and poor farmers to build their capabilities to be self-dependent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, rural economies are primarily dependent on allied and agriculture-based activities, but a major chunk of the population comprises landless or poor farmers possessing only two acres of land. They are often employed as daily wage workers performing their tasks in fishing or animal husbandry, or poultry industries. These marginal farmers are bitterly affected and will drown in the ocean of poverty, with no hope to restart and revive their economic activities, with all supply chains getting impacted in a hazardous manner. The mission of the Hindrise Social Welfare Foundation<\/strong> is to build sustainable rural livelihoods so desirable that villagers and individuals from poverty-stricken families will no longer crave to strive for employment and job-related assistance in big cities, and hence create a reverse migration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upgrading Sustainable Rural Livelihoods during COVID-19<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hindrise Foundation, a social welfare NGO, is elevating sustainable rural livelihoods amid the COVID-19 outbreak. Covid-19 has given a major blow to rural areas in numerous ways. Prevailing issues confronted by societies have been irked by the Coronavirus pandemic, and poverty-stricken families are being compelled to extend their already meagre incomes even more than before. The maximum number of migrants returning home from Tier-1, Tier-2 cities has been considerable, and they have abruptly found themselves without any job and no income, many miles away from their native places. Those who have come back are ascertaining different ways to earn a living in order to lend support to their families in need. The inescapable economic crisis has lower down the opportunities concerning jobs in the cities and towns for roving laborers – formerly a primary source of income for families living in rural regions. Recent studies have shown that most migrant laborers and daily wage workers are enthusiastic enough to work for their communities by staying in their villages, mainly on safeguarding and renovating common land. Through our projects, we are adopting a multifaceted strategy to encompass a range of advancement needs, like enhanced agricultural outputs, reviving and establishing water harvesting as well as healthy drinking water infrastructure, refined techniques concerning farming, and revitalization and preservation of common land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Government Schemes Concerning Sustainable Rural Livelihood<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the issue of returning migrants has turned into a catastrophe of intractable proportions. Along with the challenges of repairing the public health infrastructure, the matter of providing these migrants with sustainable rural livelihood requires close attention. The government schemes with respect to enhancement of sustainable rural livelihoods are mentioned below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Rural Livelihood Mission Scheme<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

National Rural Livelihood Mission<\/a> (Also regarded as NRLM) scheme is a programme of Rural Development Ministry. It intends for minimizing poverty by stimulating the poor household to gain access to self-employment and skilled wage employment opportunity deriving in sustainable rural livelihoods. MUDRA (Expanded as Micro Units Development and Refinance Agency Ltd.) is an NBFC aiding the advancement of the micro-enterprise sector all over India. MUDRA furnishes refinance assistance to Banks \/ NBFCs\/MFIs for lending to micro units having a requirement of loan up to 10 lakh. MUDRA serves refinance backing to micro-business under the Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Loan scheme<\/a>. Activities associated with agriculture’, e.g., beekeeping, poultry, pisciculture, livestock-rearing, aggregation agro-industries, grading, sorting, diary, agri-clinics, fishery and agribusiness centers, food & agro-processing, and so on. (Excluding land improvement such as irrigation, canals and wells, crop loans) and services<\/strong> benefiting these, which stimulate sustainable rural livelihoods or are income-producing shall be competent for coverage under the MUDRA scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dedicating significant funds under the MUDRA Yojana to reach entrepreneurs can help cultivate sustainable rural livelihoods in sectors like handloom weaving, which have been badly punched during the hours of crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MGNREGA Scheme<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

MGNREGA has developed as the single, enormous scheme sponsored by the Indian government strived at employing the rural multitude and intended for reducing migration to big cities. If leveraged adequately, it can furnish some assistance to the laborers returning to their villages.
