The organization has started implementing its plan of action from the beginning of the pandemic in India and has served many devastating lives till now.

India has introduced a lockdown policy to control the increasing number of COVID-19 cases effectively, but hardly the rising number of cases stopped. Therefore, it became the responsibility of all NGOs and every individual to come forward to assisting the impoverished ones. Thus, our NGO for social welfare in India, Hindrise Social Welfare Foundation, geared up to boost up the lives of sufferers amid the COVID-19 outbreak by providing COVID-19 relief services to the maximum number of less privileged individuals and families.

The entire nation has been battling a scarcity of ample medical resources due to the rapidly rising cases all over India. From personal protective equipment to people providing healthcare assistance to the number of isolation wards, the shortage of required services and facilities has been there for one and all. Among many Non-governmental organizations and volunteers that have marched ahead to lend their helping hands to the needy ones is the Hindrise Foundation. Under COVID-19 relief services, the organization has utilized its well-researched solutions based on practicality for constructing community resilience for disaster response and rehabilitation and empowerment of the weakest section so that they can come out of the well of pain and grief.

Why COVID-19 Relief Services became the Need of the Hour?

COVID-19 relief services became crucial for the underprivileged families living in poverty-stricken regions and to give them relief from their sufferings caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) concludes that almost 40% of the food delivered in India is wasted or misused every year due to a lack of efficient supply chains. A swift lockdown shook the entire nation, comprising its fragmented and delicate supply chains and food systems.

The pandemic magnified the vulnerabilities of the food system in the nation. It has disordered regional, local, as well as national supply chains, appending to the consequences associated with the food waste problem of the country. Small producers have had to sell their products at a loss if they have been capable of trading it at all. Onions are decaying in vessels, an outcome of falling catering services. Imports of food went on getting hampered because of the COVID-19 outbreak. Unfinished port operations and the cessation of roads and air cargo have hindered the passage of grains across the geographical boundaries of India.

Constraints on movement and cessation of state & national boundaries hit transportation of agri-produce from farms to marketplaces and stores and essential seeds & crop protection commodities from factories to markets. It also intruded exports of produce and agri-inputs from India to countries outside its geographical territories. Farmers could not gain on-field agronomic advisory on the pest, disease, as well as crop management.

Controlled operations of agri-input retail stores led to lags in obtaining essential agri-inputs. Farm operations & reaping were affected by migrant labor returning back to their villages. The lockdown has thwarted harvest formation and lack of agricultural labor to assist in harvest and confinements on transportation of products despite being given waivers as vital services. In order to repress the spread of Coronavirus, India’s open-ended lockdown has endangered the agriculture sector as it overlapped with the harvesting period.

Impact of COVID-19 on Migrant Laborers

The inter-state migrant workforce signifies the lowest paying and most risky jobs in critical sectors such as textiles, manufacturing, construction, hospitality, transportation, services, and domestic work. Due to India’s doubtful nature of labor jobs, many daily laborers, who are usually migrants, lost their livelihood due to lockdown. It has devised issues including starvation, no alternative modes of employment & detachment from family.

As lockdowns in the entire world increase unemployment, many vulnerable workers will be pushed into more precarious situations and lack protection. Shortage of labor is likely in those sectors, increasing the possibility of exploiting the remaining workers, and how this will impact internal migrants in the coming months. Once the pandemic has been managed to the point that sites are safe to return to for work, migrant workers may be taken advantage of and are likely to accept any type of work, so they and their families have means of income.

Even when workers can resume their roles working on-site, whether that is construction sites or textile factories, safety measures will have to be introduced to mitigate the risks of COVID-19, such as regularly checking the temperatures of workers and social distancing in working areas. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, migrant laborers from India have encountered several hardships. After the lockdown was imposed in the nation and numerous workplaces and factories shut down, a major chunk of migrant laborers had to face issues pertaining to shortage of food, income loss, and vagueness concerning the future.

Impact on Daily Wage Workers

The COVID-19 lockdown has stolen the daily wage workers of their incomes. Contract workers, Delivery boys, and daily wage earners are either thrown out of jobs or have seen a radical drop in their earnings. The lockdown has come as a principal disaster -at short notice, without giving them any hint to equip themselves for the outcomes.

As per the quarter October-December, India’s GDP in the preceding year was already as low as 4.7%. We were hopeful about gearing up in the year 2020, but later, the coronavirus pandemic boxed. The employment rate was already dawdling even before the pandemic. Around 12 million people join the workforce every year, and it is no mystery that India has fought with when comes to job production since forever, and it’s no wonder that the graph appears to go up through the pandemic. Factories have been sealed; production has lagged down, making it challenging for workers and laborers to nurture jobs. The unemployment rate was comparatively too high in India— and an official report showed a 6% rate of unemployment in 2017-18 – the highest in 45 years. As per the CMIE (Expanded as Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy), the rate of unemployment was 24% by mid-May. The poor daily wage workers have been facing the worst blow. Thousands of workers are striving each day to move back to their hometowns. The lost jobs, shortage of required resources, and money have made these already vulnerable groups more helpless.

Increase in India’s Economic Inequality- After-Effect of COVID-19

The economic inequality in India was already high before the arrival of COVID-19 in India. However, it is increasing at a rapid rate after Coronavirus landed on Indian soil. In the preceding two decades, the issue of inequality in India has grown faster as compared to any other nation besides Russia. Oxfam’s 2019 “Time to Care” report uncovered that the wealthiest 1 percent of Indians grab more than four times the wealth grasp by the bottom 70 percent of the country – that is around four times the wealth of more than 952 million people.

At the same time, the ILO (Expanded as International Labor Organization) concluded that almost 400 million workers from the informal economy of India are at risk of falling deeper into the well of grief and poverty. As per the Monitoring Indian Economy centre, more than 18.9 million salaried people lost their jobs in an unfortunate way since April 2020 — 5 million in July alone.

Severe and unexpected lockdown restrictions to halt the coronavirus’s spread in March and April drove to innumerable job losses and an internal migration crisis. On the supply point, based on the NSSO report for the first quarter, the GVA extension for all areas except agriculture waned steeply. India’s two most significant growth engines, consumption, and investment are estimated for over 88% of the total GDP and are faltering on the demand front.

The country-wide lockdown measures have brought a financial epidemic on more than five crore families of hawkers and those who furnish them with products. Hawkers are facing difficulties in standing on their feet like before the pandemic. The government has taken an extensive range of steps to encourage small vendors and hawkers to revive their businesses. At Hindrise Foundation, we are also lending a helping hand to them via our COVID-19 relief services.

COVID-19 Relief Services by Hindrise Foundation is Still On

Being a social welfare NGO performing its operations all over India, Hindrise Foundation has distributed more than 4 lakh food packets in different parts of Delhi NCR amid the clouds of grief and pain as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to this, we have distributed roughly 2 lakh ration kits to lend the helping hands and boost the confidence of the migrant workers until now. Since we have drafted a well-planned strategy to ensure the basic demands of low-income poverty-stricken families of migrant workers and other impoverished lives, we have distributed around 2 lakh face masks and even more for making them survive the cyclone caused by COVID-19.

Under our COVID-19 relief services, we have installed around 212 foot-operated sanitizer dispensers along with automatic sanitizer dispensers at police stations located in Gautam Budh Nagar. Besides this, we have installed sanitizer dispensers at temples and other religious places to handle the mass public gatherings in a safe and efficient way. Moreover, we have taken the responsibility of financially and socially backward children by serving packet milk amidst the Coronavirus outbreak to help them emerge victorious against issues like malnutrition under our COVID-19 relief services.

Lately, we have rendered around 10,000 designed reusable face masks to Uttar Pradesh Police as we feel that the protection and proper safety of Corona Warriors must be on the top of the priority list. Additionally, our social welfare NGO, Hindrise Social Welfare Foundation, has made a donation of more than 11 lakh Rs. to PM’s National Relief Fund.

An NGO for social welfare, Hindrise Foundation has donated ration to satiate the uncontrollable hunger of around 500 poor and needy families amidst the COVID-19 pandemic in the last week of June on the 21st death anniversary of the late Captain Vijayant Thapar, who was the epitome of courage. Along with it, under our COVID-19 relief services, we have donated ration kits, face masks, as well as other relief materials to daily wage workers passing via a difficult time during the pandemic. By examining the ongoing market condition in which a segment of underprivileged people has lost their jobs and got trapped in the cage of unemployment, we have commenced a project in relation to our Prime Minister Modiji’s formula of Aatm Nirbhar Bharat. Under the sunshade of this project with respect to COVID-19 relief services, we have assigned different tasks to workers who used to work in garment factories and various other factories or industries and have recently lost their job due to the COVID-19 outbreak. In addition to this, under our COVID-19 relief services, we have equipped them with the required machines, and they are utilizing those machines in preparing designed face masks. Hindrise Foundation is responsible for selling the well-designed face masks in the Indian market and accelerates sales by selling them via online portals. We are living with a high expectation that our unit engrossed in the manufacturing of masks, i.e., community shared business in which we are involved in manufacturing masks, would be fruitful in the testing hours of the Coronavirus pandemic.

To Wrap Up

COVID-19 outbreak has affected garment workers, daily wage laborers, migrant workers, small businesses, street vendors, and hawkers by breaking their financial condition and taking their fates into the land of doom. Millions of people have failed to save their job and their hard-earned savings as well, and now survival has become a matter of concern. By noticing all these devastating facts post COVID-19 pandemic, Hindrise Foundation came into the picture with its COVID-19 relief services to bring the impoverished and pandemic sufferers’ lives back on track.

Hindrise Social Welfare Foundation has clasped hands with the state governments and following the central government’s norms to respond to the physical and mental well-being of people because of the impact caused by pandemic on the economy. Our COVID-19 relief services would reach out to the children, elderly, frontline workers as well as daily wage earners.

Hindrise Foundation has come up with COVID-19 relief services in order to provide relief to the underprivileged and needy souls during the Coronavirus pandemic.
